Laser Hair Removal
Are you tired of having to shave, tweeze, wax, thread or use depilatories or other types of hair removal methods all the time to remove that unsightly hair? If so, you may want to look into Laser Hair Removal for treatment of this distressing problem. Now, men and women alike are making unwanted facial and body hair a thing of the past - thanks to Sciton Clearscan YAG laser and Broadband Light (BBL) hair removal systems here at Greenville Vein and Aesthetics Center. Both hair removal systems are cleared for permanent hair reduction and can treat a wide range of skin types and skin tones, safely and effectively with minimum pain, discomfort or downtime. Laser hair removal is ranked as the second most performed cosmetic procedure and is becoming one of the most sought after procedures.
With the Sciton Clearscan YAG laser and Broadband Light (BBL) systems, hair removal is achieved by their capability to selectively target dark, coarse actively growing hair in the follicles and heat them with a pulse of laser energy. It destroys the follicle and prevents re-growth. Each pulse of the laser takes a fraction of a second and can treat many hairs at the same time. Laser hair removal is safe enough to be used on all body parts, including the face, back, underarms, bikini line, legs, arms and other areas.
Will the hair removal be permanent? No, though it will greatly reduce the frequency of growth. As with other treatments for unwanted hair, there is no guarantee that laser hair removal will be permanent. The number of treatments needed will vary from patient to patient and your clinician will personalize a treatment plan based on the level of improvement you desire, body location and type of hair. Additionally, the number of treatments depends on each patient’s response and the amount of hair to be removed. After the desired results have been achieved, a maintenance plan and/or touch ups in the treated area(s) will be required once or twice every year or every other year .
When you are planning on undergoing laser hair removal, you should not pluck, wax , or have any type of hair removal for four to six weeks prior to treatment. This is because the laser targets the hairs' roots or hairs in the follicles that are temporarily removed by waxing, plucking, threading or sugaring as well as electrolysis. These types of hair removal methods should also not be done in between treatments. Only shaving is permitted between treatments and one day prior to scheduled appointment or the morning of your appointment. You should also avoid sun exposure for four to six weeks before and after treatment and use a broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen lotion with an SPF (Sun Protection Factor) of at least 20 to 30. Wearing sunscreen lotion will help prevent temporary changes in the color of the treated skin. Additionally, sun exposure makes laser hair removal less effective and makes complications after treatment more likely to occur. This also includes the use of artificial tanning such as, spray tans, tanning lotions, and tanning beds.
Following the treatment, you may return to your normal activities right away, but some redness and localized swelling in the treated area may occur, similar to a sunburn and typically resolves within 24 to 48 hours. In rare instances, blistering may occur. Consult with your clinician for complete information on the benefits and risks of treatment. You should keep the treated area clean, moistened, protected with a sunscreen lotion when going outdoors, and follow your clinician post care instructions carefully. Treated hairs may take up to 2 weeks to fall out.
The benefits of laser hair removal are many and are not just cosmetic, but physical and emotional as well. Laser hair removal can give you the confidence back that you may have felt you lost due to unwanted body hair. It’s preciseness is unwavering, it has the capability of treating a quarter size area in under a minute and has a 90% predictability rate for permanent hair reduction in just three to five sessions. Giving you the look and feel of softer and smoother skin. Most laser hair removal treatments can be performed during a lunch break and work well for both men or women.
